Although it's eons ago that we decided at FQHQ that it would be a great idea to have a <a href="http://www.fatquarterly.com/retreat">retreat in London</a> it feels like it was only about last month. But this time next week we will all be together chatting and sewing like old friends. Am I excited???? You bet I am.
<br/><br/>
<div align="center"><a href="http://www.fatquarterly.com/blog" title="Fat Quarterly"><img src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjiIk89S2z1y4ysiwh27TqawuFZ5jjNK9AEfy8WfoBAGBBKDUjHhMQYkrY2Wx9ytKNOsMRF8yZ5eocj9WWhzYjtxYyPtgQ8XlyFdFgLAienni71VlsAHOwYFs-rOZRQzkpUnqMa4Q8I-jVa/s254/Untitled+Drawing+14.png" alt="Fat Quarterly" style="border:none;" /></a></div>
<br/>
So I am Tacha (spelt and pronounced however you would like, I am really not that fussy!). I will likely be wearing jeans and a t-shirt as I am not as fashionable as the glamorous Katy. I will also be wearing glasses like Katy and Lynne, which are slightly broken but I never seem to get round to fixing them, much to my husband's dispair.
<br/>

<br/>
I'm 36 and have been sewing for a while now. Probably about 10 years. I really caught the quilting bug when I was living in North Carolina. I was studying in the university in the evenings so to fill up the days I sewed away to my heart's content. I didn't realise then how lucky I was to live nearby one of the largest fabric stores I have ever been in. I could rock up and pick up pretty much any colour print my heart desired. If only I had none how lucky I was - I'd have stuffed our shipping container to the brim with fabric.
I'm coming over from Berlin to London so I was worried by how much I could bring with me. In the end I decided to bring my two girls and husband and drop them off at my parents house for the weekend. Now I get to use their baggage allowance too! Yay! Lots more room for quilts and fabric. I am sure they'll only need a toothbrush and change of knickers. My Mum does have a washing machine after all!

I will be sporting the fabulous name badge made by <a href="http://www.flickr.com/people/di_willowbeck_designs/">Di</a> and bringing the badge I have made for my partner (so sorry it is late!).
And I can't wait to sit down with a few of you for a bit of EPP. I've already packed my sewing bag and I'm ready to go!
See you all soon!Tachahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04081618404651381408noreply@blogger.com24tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1405574501489830240.post-17919544119984751762012-03-03T11:26:00.002+01:002012-03-03T11:26:36.480+01:00Sew Red for Women Block 2<center><img src="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7045/6925476133_f3ff30620a_z.jpg" alt="sewredblock" width="400" /></center><br />

<span style="color: #cc0000;"><em><strong>What is the hop about?</strong></em></span><br />

I hestitated for a moment as I always take on too many swaps and then stress about getting everything finished in time, but Amy can be very persuasive! Plus this was a swap that didn't have to be handmade and had a strict $15 limit. Gifts didn't have to be made but could also be bought.<br />
<br />
To be honest I didn't hesitate for too long! Especially since I am really enjoying the Twitter playground and getting to know my fellow tweeps!<br />
<br />
I was very lucky to receive a fabulous package from Petra (<a href="http://www.twitter.com/creativemompdx">@creativemompdx</a>) who blogs at <a href="http://quiltstopainting.blogspot.com/">http://quiltstopainting.blogspot.com/</a><br />

Looks like a little mouse has already started to nibble at the chocolate. It is Advent after all! <br />
<br />
Just take a look at this tape!! Amazing!!!! And it is in German! Thank you so much Petra.<br />

<br />
I was sending to Darci (<a href="http://www.twitter.com/darcisews">@darcisews</a>) who I have known pretty much since I started on Flickr. She was in the first bee I ever joined and in fact her blocks were the very first bee blocks I made! So it was great to have her as a partner.<br />

It is such a great resource for patterns using those pre-cut fabrics that you just can't resist buying as they look so pretty. Or is that just me? I cannot resist the cuteness of charm packs or layer cakes.<br />
<br />
Anyway, today I have a <a href="http://www.modabakeshop.com/2011/12/il-cuscino.html">pillow tutorial</a> on the site. <br />
<br />
<br />

Pop over and let me know what you think!Tachahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04081618404651381408noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1405574501489830240.post-25015494774987160602011-11-28T01:00:00.000+01:002011-11-28T09:33:16.414+01:00Italian Pizzerias<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/snuggledown/6417317283/" title="busy by hanies, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7034/6417317283_c666fdcc89_z.jpg" width="400" alt="busy"></a>
<p>Yum! This black check print from Reunion by Sweetwater for Moda, just conjures up images of pizzerias to me. You know the ones - where the chef is wearing checkered trousers or a checkered apron. Every time I cut into I think of Hawaiian pizzas, or broccoli and ham.... Is it dinnertime yet!</p>
<p>I just can't get pom pom trims out of my brain either since a certain <a href="http://imagingermonkey.blogspot.com">ginger monkey</a> started popping them in her projects. And I can tell you something - our cat Noodles is also a big fan of pom pom trims *sigh*. As if it wasn't hard enough around here to get some sewing done, add some pom poms and a frenzied cat into the mix and that's it game over. I'll have to wait until Noodles is off stalking mice to get this project finished!</p>
<p>Anyway this is what I am up to today. How about you?</p>
<p>Oh and <a href="http://web.me.com/heikepier/Heikes_Quilts/Willkommen.html">Heike Pier</a> from the <a href="http://berlinmodernquiltguild.blogspot.com/">Berlin Modern Quilt Guild</a> has got a project on the <a href="http://www.modabakeshop.com/2011/11/little-have-grown.html#more">Moda Bakeshop today</a>! Yay for Heike!</p>Tachahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04081618404651381408noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1405574501489830240.post-46679623932191242102011-11-25T00:51:00.000+01:002013-08-29T09:41:46.949+02:00Pretty Little Pouch SwapPurses, pouches, bags and wallets have been a lot on my mind recently. All I have wanted to to do is sew up little projects. It is so satisfying to whip up a few small projects and be finished in a day or two! I think the most time consuming part for me is choosing which fabrics to use. Since the projects are small you want to be able to show off your favourite fabric and choose accent fabrics that really make those projects pop! With a large quilt I can choose many different fabrics but for a small project where I only use 1 or 2 fabrics, I find it so hard to choose!<br />
<br />
Anyway, to quench my thirst for making small projects I decided to take part in the <a href="http://www.flickr.com/groups/1633419@N20/">Pretty Little Pouch Swap</a>. I have to admit I had been stalking this swap for a while and was desperately hoping that the next round would come at a time when I had a few minutes to spare. And thank goodness it did! My partner for the swap was Kelly from <a href="http://kelbysews.blogspot.com/">KelbySews</a>. This lady is a fabulous sewist and really has an eye for small projects. Just see <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/kelbysews/sets/72157627958871098/">all the goods</a> she whipped up for the bazaar she took part in! She is also one of the formidable duo that make up the Pretty Little Pouch swap mamas. So I have to admit that I did feel the pressure to come up with something great.<br />
<br />
To top it off Kelly has also contributed to Fat Quarterly, (she made some fabulous coasters as part of the Designer Challenge in the <a href="http://www.fatquarterly.com/issue/fall-inspired">Fall Inspired issue</a>) and I wanted to make her something that would really suit her.<br />
So I went online and ordered a whole load of frames for purses and waited....and waited....and waited. And then turned to plan B!<br />
<br />
<center>
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/snuggledown/6185265654/" title="playing by hanies, on Flickr"><img alt="playing" src="http://farm7.staticflickr.com/6174/6185265654_6ac43c3739_z.jpg" width="400" /></a></center>
<br />
Kelly had also mentioned she was looking for a pouch for her sunglasses. The perfect opportunity to try out some paper piecing. I followed <a href="http://verykerryberry.blogspot.com/2011/04/sharing-process.html">the tutorial</a> on Kerry's blog and was surprised by how much I actually enjoyed it!<br />
<br />
<center>
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/snuggledown/6242865099/" title="glasses by hanies, on Flickr"><img alt="glasses" src="http://farm7.staticflickr.com/6220/6242865099_62d1caee76_z.jpg" width="400" /></a></center>
<center>
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/snuggledown/6262753877/" title="glasses pouch side 2 by hanies, on Flickr"><img alt="glasses pouch side 2" src="http://farm7.staticflickr.com/6059/6262753877_2f2d620605_z.jpg" width="400" /></a></center>
<center>
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/snuggledown/6263277788/" title="glasses pouch side 1 by hanies, on Flickr"><img alt="glasses pouch side 1" src="http://farm7.staticflickr.com/6120/6263277788_ea6047f78c_z.jpg" width="400" /></a></center>
<br />
And of course sod's law is that when I was about 3/4 of the way finished with the above pouch, the frames that I had ordered arrived. And of course the pouch that I had made did not fit the dimensions of the frames. Grrrrr.....<br />
But since I couldn't wait to give the flex frames a test drive I made another pouch! In fact I made me one as well which I used to look after my passport and boarding pass when I went to Quilt Market!<br />
<br />
<center>
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/snuggledown/6262755041/" title="flexi pouch by hanies, on Flickr"><img alt="flexi pouch" src="http://farm7.staticflickr.com/6230/6262755041_9da7b2f5b9_z.jpg" width="400" /></a></center>
<br />
But of course the best part of the swap was yet to come. I posted off my pouches and trieed to forget that a pouch would be winging its way to me! I tried not to scour the photo pool and guess which was mine as I really love surprises! And I was really very happily surprised when I received this fabulous swap package from Jen (<a href="http://www.bettycrockerass.com/">Bettycrockerass</a>).<br />
<br />
<center>
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/snuggledown/6398810645/" title="prettypouchswapreceived by hanies, on Flickr"><img alt="prettypouchswapreceived" src="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7165/6398810645_8140606c43_z.jpg" width="400" /></a></center>
<br />
I "met" Jen years ago on Flickr when she asked if I would print some robots in pink for her daughter's birthday so I had to giggle when I saw the paper she had chosen to wrap the pouch in!<br />
And just look what she embroidered inside! I feel as if Jen is in the pouch and it makes me smile every time I open it up.<br />
<br />
<center>
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/snuggledown/6398810881/" title="hellofriend by hanies, on Flickr"><img alt="hellofriend" src="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7002/6398810881_62d3b1558d_z.jpg" width="400" /></a></center>
<br />
I definitely got a great partner in the swap. Thank you so much Jen for making me 2 fabulous pouches and for all the small details which made it perfect just for me.<br />
<br />
Now I'm waiting for the next round. How about you? Did you take part in the swap?<br />
<br/>

What could be a clearer sign that I am a bit overloaded at the minute than the block I made for fellow <a href="http://www.flickr.com/groups/1456717@N24/">Hexed-In Bee</a> member <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/littlelegwarmers/">Brooke</a>. At first glance there is nothing wrong with this block, but it is COMPLETELY the wrong colour palette.<br />
<br />
Here is Brooke's mosaic:<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/littlelegwarmers/4997577820/" title="mosaic bee hexed in - inspiration! by {brooke} april two eighty, on Flickr"><img alt="mosaic bee hexed in - inspiration!" height="500" src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4147/4997577820_01302f2004.jpg" width="500" /></a><br />
<br />
Nothing whatsoever in common. How I could have gone on my merry way and continued stitching this block is a mystery to me. But I have to admit I do quite like it and the colour palette. I reckon I am a bit obsessed with the yellow, blue and grey mix. I will probably make this into a pillow and then have a couple of days to get my brain back in working order!Tachahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04081618404651381408noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1405574501489830240.post-89530005094590254982011-01-27T16:49:00.001+01:002011-01-27T16:49:41.568+01:00Fat Quarterly Issue 4 Out Now!<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/snuggledown/5392640940/" title="photo sharing"><img src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5136/5392640940_13a179316d_m.jpg" alt="" style="border: solid 2px #000000;" /></a><br /><span style="font-size: 0.9em; margin-top: 0px;"><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/snuggledown/5392640940/">Fat Quarterly Issue 4</a> <br />Originally uploaded by <a href="http://www.flickr.com/people/snuggledown/">hanies</a></span><br clear="all" /><p>Yep it's finally here, Issue 4 - Solids! This issue is possibly my favourite ever.<br /><br />Some of the first quilts I ever made were all solids and somehow I got sidetracked by all the gorgeous prints on offer and forgot how I enjoyed working with just solids! <br /><br />So I was very excited when we decided issue 4 would be all about solids even though I quickly realised how deplete of solids my stash had become! But that's the best thing about solids - you can find them everywhere! I cut up old shirts, bed sheets and tablecloths to make Mr Fox.<br /><br />So go gather up some of the old clothes, sheets and tablecloths you have hidden away at the back of your wardrobe and get stitching! (Of course you could also go on a shopping trip using some of the coupons in FQ as well!)</p>Tachahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04081618404651381408noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1405574501489830240.post-91616794539832114272011-01-23T15:56:00.001+01:002011-01-23T15:56:58.315+01:00Mr Fox<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/snuggledown/5380571758/" title="photo sharing"><img src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5207/5380571758_a7e4dbfe62_m.jpg" alt="" style="border: solid 2px #000000;" /></a><br /><span style="font-size: 0.9em; margin-top: 0px;"><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/snuggledown/5380571758/">Mr Fox</a> <br />Originally uploaded by <a href="http://www.flickr.com/people/snuggledown/">hanies</a></span><br clear="all" /><p>I feel a bit naughty including the pattern to Mr Fox in Issue 4 of Fat Quarterly as he started off as an idea for a swap and this particular pillow was stitched up as my Dad's Christmas present.<br /><br />Mr Fox was destined for a spot in my Dad's office to cosy up the room and to keep an eye on the warehouse! But he never made it that far. He is now parked in my parent's living room, warming himself in front of the fire. I dare say he is a lot more comfy there but now I will have to make another pillow for Dad's office!<br /><br />Still it was a lot of fun stitching him together and doing all the hand stitching. I thought before I started that it would take forever but it flew by! The only tricky bit about this pattern is keeping track of where all the bits go! I recommend cutting them as you go.<br /><br />Anyway if you fancy sewing yourself a Mr Fox pillow he will be appearing in Issue 4 out on Januray 27th!</p>Tachahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04081618404651381408noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1405574501489830240.post-16750396603994117822011-01-22T22:51:00.002+01:002011-01-22T22:52:29.660+01:00Bee Germany<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/snuggledown/5374394755/" title="photo sharing"><img alt="" src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5123/5374394755_000d9f6a2e_m.jpg" style="border-bottom: #000000 2px solid; border-left: #000000 2px solid; border-right: #000000 2px solid; border-top: #000000 2px solid;" /></a><br />

Even though I had promised myself I wouldn't sign up for any more Bees I just couldn't resist Bee Germany when <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/jonalili/">Johanna</a> asked me to join last year. It is just fantastic to get to know a whole load of quilters who live close enough to visit. And can you believe there are about 5 of us that live in Berlin! I can't wait to meet them although so far all the meet up dates have fallen on a weekend I can't make! Sod's law. I will be there next meet up I promise!<br />
<a name='more'></a><br />
Anyhoo, Amelie just got a new bunk bed, or semi-bunk bed, for her birthday last week, so she is finally in a full size bed. We felt a bit guilty seeing her all curled up in her junior bed! <br />
<br />
A bigger bed needs a bigger quilt and you can certainly never have enough quilts in my opinion. So since February is my month for sending out fabric I am very excited to be able to finally put some of my Far Far Away II to good use to make Amelie a quilt. I bought a whole load of this line and haven't had a chance to stroke or admire or dream up possible projects with it. So I decided that the ladies in Bee Germany would be able to help me make a fabulous new quilt using it, especially since Amelie has been re-enacting Sleeping Beauty at her Kita.<br />
<br />
The mosaic above is my inspiration for the group. It seems I am quite into stars and circles at the moment! I hadn't realised until I saw the mosaic!<br />
<br />
I can't wait to see what they come up with.Tachahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04081618404651381408noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1405574501489830240.post-45030556123752461902011-01-21T12:58:00.002+01:002011-01-21T14:45:29.425+01:00Fat Quarterly Reader Competion! ~ WIN IT TO BE IN IT!!!!<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/acardaday/5365908969/" title="photo sharing"><img alt="" src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5081/5365908969_7725b6ef16_m.jpg" style="border-bottom: #000000 2px solid; border-left: #000000 2px solid; border-right: #000000 2px solid; border-top: #000000 2px solid;" /></a><br />

It's getting close to the release of Issue 4 of Fat Quarterly! <br />
<a name='more'></a><br />
We are all so excited about this issue. Not only is it a year since we started Fat Quarterly but we also have a number of great designers joining us in this issue!<br />
<br />
My sewing machine is normally parked on the dining room table so I have easy access to whip up the odd block whilst my girls are playing. I kept deluding myself that I would put the sewing machine away between uses but it is time to face the fact that it is on the dining room table to stay. And if it is here to stay then it needs a pretty cover.<br />
<br />
Check out our flickr group http://www.flickr.com/groups/fatquarterly to see more projects that will be in the new issue. And look out for the new issue on 27th January 2011!Tachahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04081618404651381408noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1405574501489830240.post-19302917261048414732010-09-05T16:30:00.001+02:002010-09-05T16:30:52.303+02:00September Busy Bees<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/43246798@N05/4960307306/" title="photo sharing"><img src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4148/4960307306_0996f758e1_m.jpg" alt="" style="border: solid 2px #000000;" /></a><br /><span style="font-size: 0.9em; margin-top: 0px;"><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/43246798@N05/4960307306/">September Busy Bees block for Tacha</a> <br />Originally uploaded by <a href="http://www.flickr.com/people/43246798@N05/">Lilys Quilts</a></span><br clear="all" /><p>Time to get back in the saddle with blogging! I don't know where the time goes. I keep thinking I'll post this week and before I knwo it the month has whizzed by.<br /><br />But I promise to be a better blogger. Honestly! This time there is no crossing my fingers behind my back!<br /><br />Part of the reason of being absent is all the bees I have been involved in. So much fun but wow does it suck up my extra free time! Still it didn't stop me from signing up for another bee. This time called the Busy Bees as we are all incredibly busy. Not that anyone isn't!<br /><br />September is my month for sending out fabric so I snipped up pieces of beige, yellow and pink to send out to my fellow busy bees.<br /><br />Look at this beauty made by Lynne of Lilys Quilts! It was really fun to make a mini quilt for her as I already know her from Bee Inspired and she was the lovely lady who sent me the West Hill horse fabric which I used for Amelie's horse quilt.</div><div> </div><div>Barb wrote in her preferences that she likes gees bend, aqua and tangerine, birds, trees and circles. So I tried to combine these preferences in one quilt.</div><div> </div><div>I started by piecing together blue strips in a wavy way aka gees bend. To add a bit of contrast I inserted little bits of brown. (Tick Gees Bend ;-) )</div><div> </div><div>Then I added some circle borders in aqua and tangerine. Most of his family still lives in Chile, as do many of our closest friends and they have all been fairly traumatised by the events over the last couple of weeks. There have been over 200 aftershocks since the earthquake with one only yesterday with a strength of 6.9. Everyday we hear more news about more damaged buildings and problems with lack of food and water in the most effected areas. The main roads are all destroyed and reaching some of the people most in need is proving very difficult.<br /><br />So please dig deep in your pockets and head over to <a href="http://flossyblossy.blogspot.com/2010/03/let-auction-begin.html">Brioni's blog </a>and leave your <a href="http://flossyblossy.blogspot.com/2010/03/let-auction-begin.html">bid</a>.<br /><br />And a huge thank you to Katy and Brioni for doing such a wonderful thing.Tachahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04081618404651381408noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1405574501489830240.post-58592171277594109932010-03-05T08:57:00.004+01:002010-03-05T14:00:41.808+01:00I'm Sew Hip!!!<p align="center"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi_fOdewaEHK0WxDP7gMfvYXbkNs9Bt6J_H8Hz_Fv4HOGxYjolmmIuNIb3Ro08XoIq5Oe14YAhCIChED30DFBNOyKg2OoY519WJT9i7f-zH-71NqaZuwty2-F774-ypF7NdV53bWZ0_MRY/s1600-h/sew+hip+1+001.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5445056459441209730" style="WIDTH: 232px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 320px" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi_fOdewaEHK0WxDP7gMfvYXbkNs9Bt6J_H8Hz_Fv4HOGxYjolmmIuNIb3Ro08XoIq5Oe14YAhCIChED30DFBNOyKg2OoY519WJT9i7f-zH-71NqaZuwty2-F774-ypF7NdV53bWZ0_MRY/s320/sew+hip+1+001.jpg" border="0" /></a></p><div><br /><br /></div><div>A while ago I sent off a pdf file to the magazine Sew Hip and was blown away when they said they wanted to print the pattern and asked me to send them the quilt for a photo shoot. I think it is definitely the area of quilting that I give the least attention. I spend 90% of my time making blocks and piecing tops together. Now I want to try and concentrate more on the quilting and how to get most out of my patchwork designs with the quilting.<br /><br />I am really digging straight line quilting at the moment. Especially horizontal and vertical lines.<br /><br /><p align="center"><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/46363634@N03/4259640490/"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5439138002441005618" style="WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 240px" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhuNclmlVkDcaZmU0Mne3ONBB3sSjpV4x_6m_Nhkeke-1Ce2BFtN7RVSUILoXCJgm6wdnF681CavkgWht_T-XdOG80Kv17a94LQCNXGbUqYonVXtJ3Y6mP60bXQGioWf8DLZ4MihpUf7Nw/s320/lines.jpg" border="0" /></a></p><br /><br />I saw this quilt yesterday from <a href="http://lavidacompartida.blogspot.com/">la vida compartida</a>. And I just adore it! The quilt itself is fabulous. The mix of different size rectangles and the splattering of applique circles keeps your eye moving around the quilt. But what is really fantastic is the quilting. All straight lines, but in some sections the lines are horizontal and in others the lines are vertical. In some sections the lines are close together and in other sections the lines are further apart. Genius!!!!!<br /><br />I am already thinking which quilt I can use this type of quilting design on!!! What is even better with a design like this is that it should be "relatively" easy to quilt a large quilt on my small machine in this way.<br /><br />What quilting designs have inspired you recently?<br /><br />And remember this <a href="http://haniesquilts.blogspot.com/2010/01/sampler-blocks-and-tutorial.html">tutorial</a> - look at these fabulous blocks!<br /><br /><p align="center"><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/37673428@N05/4319231002/"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5439137405409895218" style="WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 310px" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEibvpGzGOFdVdpbToc3U1PvaD4sbm9KrkffeJ-gvW_BqOYSNNPX4Mm-BKjoBpc0ERAj1P2AyK-5Zvx4bxCT-znlkH3c2d-fRO93nl5V1IUQx2rc002fj1AidmyQ5Rqyj2p7rTZtAs0GqZ0/s320/breastawareness.jpg" border="0" /></a></p><br />This one is by Little Miss Shabby. I love this swap. As much as I love making doll quilts there is only so much wall space to hang them on. Whereas cushions I could cover the whole house in. I have been having fun today pulling out fabrics and trying to work out what would suit my partner the best. This little collection of fabrics I keep coming back to and I think this is what I am going to use. I just hope my partner likes them!<br /><br />What makes a good pillow / cushion in your opinion? I like improvisation and wonky log cabins a lot but sometimes I can't help feeling that the oldies are the goodies. I think sometimes I am put off making more traditional blocks because they are sometimes more complicated to make. Making sure points match up, or using templates seems much more headache than whipping out a log cabin or a group of half square triangles.<br /><br /><br /><p align="center"><a href="http://www.amazon.com/Rotary-Cut-Quilt-Blocks-Patchwork-Place/dp/1564778932"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5434367264808147602" style="WIDTH: 240px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 240px" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEje0l7NrkzqUNDHHn_ifFZSY_zXYEIRKVhYWPBRTGUpnEdaCUWvq9T6fm6z89RRTbF-UOmg1qWhJBh6uvVOCICJC4Y9Yr3gXSkd6m-jeImMQKu3bLpx27-Wy-s0Ob9C9N6PlmHhzoj08gg/s320/501quiltblocks.jpg" border="0" /></a></p><br />I picked up this book a while ago and I just adore browsing through the blocks and imaging them in different fabric combinations. I feel a new quilt coming on every time I flick through.<br /><br />So when Vanessa from the Another Quilting Bee group asked for a traditional style star I turned immediately to this book.<br /><br /><p align="center"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEimCexUkjk1NLzAwAN_uB8F5lXW0A0Dxj5PNz6NnnVxh4rrp0jQ_0JhTJSVXf41ouTCUw7bCTW-S4eIaoZI7gh2bKbiDyIsFstyN3CjWH2yzQ6bHCV7Bq0mK2mdcoxJnRtdaa5DZK6wl-U/s1600-h/vanessasblock.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5434366044434192162" style="WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 240px" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEimCexUkjk1NLzAwAN_uB8F5lXW0A0Dxj5PNz6NnnVxh4rrp0jQ_0JhTJSVXf41ouTCUw7bCTW-S4eIaoZI7gh2bKbiDyIsFstyN3CjWH2yzQ6bHCV7Bq0mK2mdcoxJnRtdaa5DZK6wl-U/s320/vanessasblock.jpg" border="0" /></a></p> I really like how it turned out and can't wait to make more of these type blocks!Tachahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04081618404651381408noreply@blogger.com6tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1405574501489830240.post-4156725010760631022010-01-25T13:22:00.008+01:002010-01-25T15:57:16.682+01:00Thermofax Printing EquipmentFor those of you who have asked how I print my robots here is a quick overview of what you need!<br /><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj3MNlzSbNFALsZg5ad_9NsPCA4XDXUuklFXwqZNuIFUZk2E2AQpB4TDxJJgqNlKTHaTbcmOd-5_Sxq2GkczFRW_vMHU7PYm1jz0Z_v6PK9ggLEsb-1pLpbkhoum0d1AEJKY2T9mYFwTyg/s1600-h/usefulstuff.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5430652586619679138" style="WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 287px" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj3MNlzSbNFALsZg5ad_9NsPCA4XDXUuklFXwqZNuIFUZk2E2AQpB4TDxJJgqNlKTHaTbcmOd-5_Sxq2GkczFRW_vMHU7PYm1jz0Z_v6PK9ggLEsb-1pLpbkhoum0d1AEJKY2T9mYFwTyg/s320/usefulstuff.jpg" border="0" /></a><br /><br />Things you will need for printing:<br /><br />Squeegee<br />Old spoons<br />mixing containers (with lids to store any leftover ink)<br />SOFT paintbrush<br />fabric<br />fabric screenprinting ink<br /><br />When I had my thermofax screen made I was advised to use the long white squeegee in the photo above. It is a bit like a window squeegee and has a very flexible edge. The thermofax screen can be damaged easily and this squeegee does not exert much pressure on the screen.<br /><br />However, I found my printing results were hit or miss (to be honest mostly miss) with this squeegee. When I tried with the more standard screen printing squeegee my printing improved about 100 fold! I use mostly the small Speedball brown squeegee.<br /><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjgYkItn0iMXNoMUn1XQ77gmqJWMQwpcjn0LfRbj9ZlljFYkYWyDcBDsNuJqaLWT1Ca8mHS4VVtv0T_kMmq8zwe6saGsnpBUylreQJCi0IbujYlP3evtzIjWMT-XAS4PhL-f5CPy607Vpw/s1600-h/printingboard.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5430652311724635954" style="WIDTH: 250px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 320px" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjgYkItn0iMXNoMUn1XQ77gmqJWMQwpcjn0LfRbj9ZlljFYkYWyDcBDsNuJqaLWT1Ca8mHS4VVtv0T_kMmq8zwe6saGsnpBUylreQJCi0IbujYlP3evtzIjWMT-XAS4PhL-f5CPy607Vpw/s320/printingboard.jpg" border="0" /></a><br /><br /><strong>Surface for printing.</strong> <br /><br />You get better print results when you print on a slightly soft surface. I copied <a href="http://celestinacarmen.blogspot.com/">Celestina Carmen </a>(an absolutely must read blog for any wannabe screen printers out there - it is a mine of information and Tina is fabulous and helps you out with any problems!). I bought a wooden board from the diy shop, stretched some batting over and some canvassy fabric over the top and stapled the lot down.<br /><br /><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEizrAKwn7V8ktF0Gh2VBiI9vw9aJU6x2Q6DyxvqIG2qowNa9i5Cce9krnqDTN3_BLAZj3aGzGrr3sT6iKBRq6_Z3P3L_kllYT0_uexWd_6wNpPv8jKQDzsZn8r_ulciGNqrCTms1sS5ki0/s1600-h/robotframe.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5430652210792270770" style="WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 240px" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEizrAKwn7V8ktF0Gh2VBiI9vw9aJU6x2Q6DyxvqIG2qowNa9i5Cce9krnqDTN3_BLAZj3aGzGrr3sT6iKBRq6_Z3P3L_kllYT0_uexWd_6wNpPv8jKQDzsZn8r_ulciGNqrCTms1sS5ki0/s320/robotframe.jpg" border="0" /></a><br /><br /><br /><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg30XMIr7jxGe-8DWCBE_SbreTFc-eAnJ51W1YCO9scxopLZwayOcrjRW-Ejh0_7IywZiUR-hpG4FtFVsxE8pkw39XthkWO7GXPo8b4_QSRdSeEx0yBgZNvbf3LIRPzS-Q5cb-4K-xdsmo/s1600-h/essentialcleanupstuff.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5430652102203285762" style="WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 268px" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg30XMIr7jxGe-8DWCBE_SbreTFc-eAnJ51W1YCO9scxopLZwayOcrjRW-Ejh0_7IywZiUR-hpG4FtFVsxE8pkw39XthkWO7GXPo8b4_QSRdSeEx0yBgZNvbf3LIRPzS-Q5cb-4K-xdsmo/s320/essentialcleanupstuff.jpg" border="0" /></a><br /><br /><strong>Clean up</strong></div><div> </div><div>You have to be quick when screen printing. If the ink dries in the screen it can block the holes making further printing impossible. Work quickly and efficiently. Have everything to hand and wash up as soon as you are finished.</div><div> </div><div>It is useful to have a packet of baby wipes to hand to make sure you don't transfer ink all over the place. Cover the surroundings with newspaper and make sure you have plenty of space to hang prints to dry.</div><div> </div><div>To wash up a thermofax screen use COLD water only! Hot water will damage the screen. Use a SOFT paintbrush to clean the screen and a few drops of washing up liquid. Then you can use warm water to wash your hands and the squeegee!<br /><br /></div><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjOEzfftneARKsjm0dkVRttyJ3IYwjRtYF2v0nbWxWCXAiJyjtfK8nL6yD7t8-7izWMWHeVWWQD5SR20u9WvDLqoxKpjIXTEbJLmjV0dKvCSA_q0BBIuFkU7hMSvY0hyo0GHjbr3zrsFi4/s1600-h/5robotsagain.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5430651795671180946" style="WIDTH: 237px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 320px" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjOEzfftneARKsjm0dkVRttyJ3IYwjRtYF2v0nbWxWCXAiJyjtfK8nL6yD7t8-7izWMWHeVWWQD5SR20u9WvDLqoxKpjIXTEbJLmjV0dKvCSA_q0BBIuFkU7hMSvY0hyo0GHjbr3zrsFi4/s320/5robotsagain.jpg" border="0" /></a><br /><br />To start printing is fairly easy. You don't need too much either. It is not very expensive to get a thermofax screen made. It is easier to get started using these screens than normal screen printing. <a href="http://www.etsy.com/shop/CraftChi?section_id=5115388">Craft Chi </a>sells custom made screens on etsy and in Germany you can get them made <a href="http://www.patchworkshop.de/oxid.php/sid/x/shp/oxbaseshop/cl/alist/cnid/7cc435bdd63c3d167.58976059">here</a>.</div><div> </div><br /><br /><div>Next time I print I'll take photos of the process! <br /><br />Listed in my etsy shop <a href="http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=39256641">here</a></div><div></div>Tachahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04081618404651381408noreply@blogger.com11tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1405574501489830240.post-47427274316675560062010-01-21T18:09:00.003+01:002010-01-21T18:30:24.685+01:00Amelie's Horse Quilt<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjEluPQ_2qxbyUFV368G38VRh9tH87mkXblB6-Qy6dIYYQ0bg0q1vrtV-MWsXuMcKu58rNFsCU_WZgdoVKpr7ZC6qVWn_3Bs6I7fbHEe0_wd_KfzdyuDoBBtapc7N6lGDMuj7aw7zn0ej0/s1600-h/horseyquilt.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5429241781881727778" style="WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 240px" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjEluPQ_2qxbyUFV368G38VRh9tH87mkXblB6-Qy6dIYYQ0bg0q1vrtV-MWsXuMcKu58rNFsCU_WZgdoVKpr7ZC6qVWn_3Bs6I7fbHEe0_wd_KfzdyuDoBBtapc7N6lGDMuj7aw7zn0ej0/s320/horseyquilt.jpg" border="0" /></a> <div><div><br />I started this quilt for Amelie last year sometime when she told me she absolutely had to have a horse quilt!
